You and Me by Stephanie Kepke
Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth
I found this story a little heartbreaking to be honest, it really hit a chord in me. The majority of the story you're finding out about Alex, what happened and how she realizes that she doesn't want to be alone, but that the only person she wants is Billy, the one man she truly loves but just can't find. When the Candy Hearts start arriving, you feel her hope that happiness might just happen to her, and you can't help hoping along with her. A wonderfully sweet story.
The Review:
Forty year old Alex Spencer has given up on love after leaving her mentally abusive, two decades older partner and father to her moody sixteen-year-old daughter Josie. Five years ago she kicked him out of her life, and now she's filled with regret, for complying twenty years ago, to cut all ties to her high school sweetheart, Billy Leibowitz. Her life revolves around her daughter who wants nothing to do with her. Yet her thoughts are constantly being invaded by memories of the her best friend and the one man who always loved her, Billy. A man who seems to have vanished off the face of the Earth. A man who always sent her Candy Hearts on Valentine's, and with Valentine's looming, Alex can't help wondering where he is. Suddenly, Candy Hearts start arriving in the mail. Is Billy sending the Candy Hearts? Will this finally be her chance at happily ever after?
