Bearly Hanging On by Lynn Red my review
Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth
Another delightful story, from the fabulous, Jamesburg Shifters series. Each story can be read as a standalone. To be perfectly honest, I love this series. It is fun and sexy and has me in stitches from laughing. Bearly Hanging On had all that and more. It was sweet and a little sad though hilarious all at the same time. Another must read from a wonderful series and a fabulous author. I can’t wait for the next book in this uniquely brilliant series.
Opening Scene:
“We need those lights! I can’t,” Professor Duggan, Jamesburg’s city planner cum hedgehog-shifting history professor, was getting very red in the face.
The Review:
Jamie Ampton is a beautiful, smart, sharp tongued and always neat, vampire-shifter who always attracts the wrong men. Men who are a little arrogant, with a smidgen of a cocky swagger, except her last one who was all about him and his self-importance, leaving her cold and unsure if there is a soulmate for her.
Ryan Drake has secrets. When he shows up demanding the town alpha does his job and helps the aging shifters, he gains Jaime’s attention. Hard not to when her heart starts pumping a little faster and she feels all warm and tingly inside. That’s before he looks directly at her and stares right into her eyes, making her feel breathless. And in that second Jaime starts falling for a bear.
Upon seeing Jaime, Ryan has decided there is now two things he wants in life. Help for his friends and Jaime as his mate. And Ryan is a bear who always gets what he wants.
Notable Scene:
“That’s some high gravity for a complainer’s court session. How about you come back next week and I’ll have an answer?” Erik said with an uneasy laugh.
Both Izzy and Jaime were staring at him. They’d both been hounding him – so to speak – for months, about this exact problem. Old shifters, sick ones, homeless ones that took to the forest, a clutch of runaway fox kits and adolescent raccoons that functioned as a sort of furry Robin Hood and his Merry Men, they all lived out there in the great wilderness around Jamesburg, and almost none of them had any way to keep warm, or to keep fed.
“How about you come up with one now?” Izzy asked. “He’s-what’s your name?”
The bear narrowed his eyes. His beard, when he did that, almost looked like it swallowed his face.
I really, really want to see this face shaved. Or at least just stubbly. Jaime bit her own tongue, irritated with herself for not being able to focus.
“Ryan Drake,” he said with a growl. All that gruffness and all those smiles vanished into pure, focused anger. “Fix it.”
With that, he gave Jaime one last look that just melted her to the core, stood up, and left without another word.
Oh shit, Jaime’s stomach hit her feet. He’s hot, he’s got a hell of a sneer, and even though he’s got a gnarly beard, and I don’t even like bears very much… Maybe I just had to see the right one. I’m in big trouble.
