Playing the Playboy’s Sweetheart by Carol Marinell my review

Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth

I liked the story but found it very slow and frustrating. At times I must admit, I wanted to shake Emily and scream: “Give him a chance!” Emily though is determined to not put her heart on the line. The problem is you can understand why she doesn't want to, to an extent, which to be honest makes it more frustrating. How can you be annoyed with a character for not taking a chance when, you understand why she won’t and probably wouldn't risk your own heart either? As for Hugh, *sigh* he is gorgeous, successful, sexy and has a heart of gold. Yes he is a heartbreaker. But will Emily learn that sometimes you just have to take a chance before it’s too late?

The Review:

Three years ago nurse Emily Jackson experienced the most earth-shattering kiss of her life with playboy doctor, Hugh Linton. But Emily isn't interested in putting her heart at risk for anyone other than her ideal man, which most definitely isn't the heartbreaker doctor Hugh! When Emily desperately needs a wedding date, Hugh is more than happy to play the part, but only if Emily agrees to play his sweetheart and convince their boss that his party days are over. Pretending her heart belongs to Hugh becomes more difficult to remember, especially when every kiss they share makes her want to forget it’s all pretence.

Notable Scene:

“Stay for a bit longer,” Hugh pushed. She didn't want to, though, because she opened up too easily to him. Fleeting. She recalled Annie’s words. Heartbreak. Neither of those did she need. She wanted her perfect man-one that meant she could hold onto her heart. Right now that heart was hammering in her chest and very possibly about to be set free if that lovely, sexy mouth moved just a few inches closer, which it was possibly about to do. “I really do have to go…” Emily chose to play it safe. “Why?” “I told you-I don’t want to miss my lift.” “And I told you-I'm very happy to drive you home.”
